The Arnold shoulder press was named after the name of the greatest and the most popular bodybuilding living legend Arnold Schwarzenegger who invented this unique technique by performing shoulder press with dumbbell along with an added rotation element to shoulder press. The Arnold believed that in this way he was able to target different shoulder muscles heads more effectively which proved to be right and soon this type of shoulder press became very popular. Arnold Dumbbell Press is also commonly known as shoulder press with pronation and rotating shoulder press. This exercise is usually suggested to those training in their intermediate level.

When you are ready to perform the famous rotating shoulder press, sit on a bench which has back support to help you maintain your position while lifting the dumbbells up.

  1. Grasp 2 dumbbells and keep in front of you at the level of your upper chest while your elbows are bent and palms are facing body. Rotate your palms while lifting up the dumbbells until this enable your arms to be fully extended above your head with palms facing outwards.
  2. When your arms reach up, breathe out and hold the contraction for a second before your lower down the dumbbells to the starting position.

You can do the recommended number of repetitions. However, you should keep in your mind that the Arnold press is more likely to be used to give extreme focus on increasing muscle mass and size; therefore, you must follow a moderate range of repetition. You can also perform this exercise while you are standing; however, this is not usually recommended because of the problems with back issues.
